There is no public landfill in Oceanside. Here are the closest drop off sites, the free city programs, and when it makes more sense to have it hauled
Updated October 22, 2026
Oceanside Dump Quick Answer
Dump in Oceanside: None. No public landfill or transfer station is open to residents inside city limits
Closest drop off sites: Palomar Transfer Station in Carlsbad, EDCO in Fallbrook, EDCO in Escondido
Free option: WM curbside bulky pickup, up to 5 items, 5 times a year
WM Oceanside line: (760) 439-2824
Hazardous waste: 2880 Industry St., Saturdays by appointment
There is no public dump in Oceanside. The city's old landfill on Mission Avenue closed in 1979, and today trash is collected by WM, whose Oceanside Boulevard address is an office, not a drop off site. Residents with a truckload usually drive to the Palomar Transfer Station in Carlsbad, EDCO in Fallbrook or EDCO in Escondido. Before you rent anything, check the free WM bulky item pickup: up to 5 items, 5 times a year. For anything bigger, Oceanside junk removal starts at $69 and the crew does the loading.
Is There a Dump in Oceanside?
No. Oceanside's Mission Avenue landfill operated from 1971 to 1979 and has been capped for decades, and the older Maxson Street site closed in 1969. There is no public landfill or transfer station inside the city today.
That surprises people because Oceanside has a compost facility and a WM office on Oceanside Boulevard. Neither one takes household junk. The El Corazon compost facility at 3210 Oceanside Blvd handles yard trimmings, and WM's office at 2141 Oceanside Blvd is just an office.
Skip the Dump. Skip the Headache.
One call and it can be gone as soon as today. No out of town drive, no scale line, no loading a thing.

Where Oceanside Residents Take Their Junk
These are the three closest public drop off sites. Drive times are rough estimates from central Oceanside, and none of the three posts self haul prices online, so call ahead with what you are bringing.
| Site | Address | Hours | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palomar Transfer Station (Republic) | 5960 El Camino Real, Carlsbad | Every day, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. | 760-603-0153 |
| Fallbrook Recycling and Transfer (EDCO) | 550 W. Aviation Rd., Fallbrook | Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. | (760) 728-6114 |
| Escondido Resource Recovery (EDCO) | 1044 W. Washington Ave., Escondido | Every day, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. | (760) 745-3332 |
Palomar Transfer Station, Carlsbad (about 15 to 20 minutes)
The closest option for most of Oceanside and open seven days. One catch: Palomar's free drop offs for mattresses, carpet and e-waste are for Carlsbad residents only, so Oceanside residents should expect to pay at the scale. The Carlsbad dump guide covers hours, rules and directions.
EDCO Fallbrook (about 25 to 30 minutes)
A good pick for Rancho del Oro, Mission Avenue and the east side of town. Per EDCO's Fallbrook page, it takes trash, recyclables and bulky items, plus e-waste and used oil, but no household hazardous waste. It is closed Sundays and on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
EDCO Escondido (about 30 minutes)
Open every day, which helps on a Sunday. Every load must be tarped, and it does not take tires or hazardous waste. Call the public dump hotline at (760) 745-3332 before you go. The Escondido dump guide has the full rundown.
Free WM Bulky Item Pickup in Oceanside
This is the first thing to check before you rent a truck. Oceanside homes with WM service get up to 5 large items picked up, 5 times a year, at no charge, per the City of Oceanside and WM's 2025 Oceanside resident guide. E-waste counts toward the allowance, and items should be beyond reuse or repair.
Call WM at (760) 439-2824 at least one business day before your service day, or schedule it in the WM app. Twice a year the City also runs Donation Weeks and Landfill Weeks, which do not count against your five pickups. Watch the City's zero waste page for the next dates.
Where the curbside program falls short: more than five items, anything still inside the house or up a flight of stairs, or a deadline like a move out. That is the job a same day junk removal crew is built for.
Hazardous Waste, Electronics and Mattresses
Household hazardous waste goes to the WM facility at 2880 Industry St., one block south of Oceanside Boulevard. It is open on Saturdays twice a month by appointment only: call (760) 439-2824 and bring proof of residency. Paint is limited to 15 gallons per visit. Seniors 62 and older and residents with disabilities can request a free home pickup. Details are on the City hazardous waste page.
Electronics can go in your curbside bulky pickup. Cell phones and household batteries go on top of the recycling cart in a sealed clear bag.
Mattresses have no free drop off site in Oceanside. If you are buying a new one, California requires retailers that deliver to offer to take the old one for free. Otherwise our mattress disposal service picks it up from inside the house.
Oceanside Recycling: The Buyback Center Closed
If you are searching for Oceanside recycling to cash in bottles and cans, note that the City's Oceanside Buyback Center closed on March 23, 2024, per the City of Oceanside. The site now handles hazardous waste and paint by appointment. Some map listings still show the old buyback hours, so do not drive over with a trunk full of cans.
The nearest CRV buyback is the Recycling Buyback Center at Palomar in Carlsbad, open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oceanside residents can also pick up free compost and mulch from El Corazon, which runs a $2 truck loading special on the first and third Saturdays of the month.
When Hiring a Hauler Beats the Drive
Because every Oceanside dump run is really an out of town trip, the math tilts toward hiring sooner than it does in Carlsbad or Escondido. Our flat prices are $69 to $100 for a single item, $249 for a quarter load, $349 for a half load and $495 for a full truck, with loading, hauling and disposal included. The junk removal cost guide shows what fits in each size.
- Furniture and couches. See furniture disposal.
- Fridges, washers and dryers. See appliance removal.
- Move outs and PCS moves with a deadline. See estate and full house cleanouts.
- Neighbors in North County. We cover Carlsbad, Vista and San Marcos on the same routes, and the rest of the county through San Diego junk removal.
